Okay so after my original post about texas, I started thinking again about different things in Texas that have since confused me because of living in colorado.
1. Gas stations: Why? Why are people in texas obsessed with gas stations? Obviously, buc-ees is a famous gas station in texas that is super beloved. But there is also Quick Trip and Circle K which advertise “hanging out at the gas stations” during a roast rip. Who wants to hang out at a gas station, let alone in the middle of an 8or12 or 15hourcar ride? Why not do valuable something like exploring the city you stopped in, going out for a meal at a local restaurant, or walking down downtown? Why a gas station?
2. State flags: I don't think I have ever been in a state that has its state flag literally all over the place. The state flag in texas is very well known and is pretty much flown alongside the American flag in most businesses. I have lived in Colorado for 2 years and I don't even know what their state flag looks like but driving down the highway, there are as many trees lining the busy highway as there are texas flags.
3. Texas pride: I mean, everyone knows that ‘everything is bigger in Texas. That includes pride. There is so much Texas pride in this state. People have Texas tattooed on their bodies, alcohol, and liquors named after the state, and even name their children cities or towns after the state. Everyone is some form of a texas sports fan, whether it's the Dallas cowboys the Houston Stars to the texas rangers. Everyone has some sort of sports gear and loves some tailgate/party that revolves around the sport. It makes me feel amazing that there's a strong support team waiting for me.
4. Space: Wow, there is so much space in Texas. I'm driving around and I see how much space each house has. Each house has a bunch of space between the front yard and the back yard. There are so many horses that are just frolicking around the houses and in between houses. It's incredible! And I missed that while in Colorado. Sure, Colorado is beautiful and they do have cowboys and walking trails for farm animals but I feel like it's not as country as in texas. I feel like in Texas, it's more authentic and more common to own a horse that just frolics in your front yard, whereas in Colorado, you have a horse near a barn a few miles away.
F5. ood: Listen, I grew up in Texas. In my opinion, Texas is the food state of the USA. I don't care what you say. I will die on this hill. The food in texas is absolutely amazing. When I was in the process of moving to Colorado, I was told that it was one of the best places to go for food. I was so extremely excited to go and try all of these amazing food places that I heard so much about. But when I got here, I was extremely disappointed. I know and understand that each place has its specialties, such as the coastal states are really good with seafood because of the fresh fish. Texas is great with EVERYTHING! I mean everything. I don't think that I have had something that I hated in texas. Burgers, BBQ, Tex Mex, bread, pastries, beer, Dr. Pepper, Italian, everything. I'm disappointed in the food that is presented to me in Colorado. Don't come for me. I can't get good queso here without going to a tex-mex chain. I haven't had good steak here without going to Texas Roadhouse. Burgers are AWFUL here. Where is the flavor?!
6. Mountains: The whole month that I was in Texas, I kept looking for mountains. I was looking for the skyline of mountains. But alas, there are none. Texas only has some very odd hills. And I missed my sunrises on the mountain skyline. I know that Texas doesn't have mountains but I still kept looking because I love the mountain skyline every morning on my way to work or drinking coffee and doing some reading. This is something that was hard to accept while I was in Texas and as soon as I got to Colorado, I couldn't believe that I had my very wonderful, perfect mountain skyline again.
7. Heat: I DO NOT MISS THE TEXAS HEAT! How did I get rid of all of my shorts while living in colorado? Who gave me the authority to do that? That was a mistake. And then when I was in Texas, I ordered some shorts off amazon, and guess what?! They got delivered to my door in Colorado so that was no help at all. I'm so happy that colorado doesn't have that heat.
I love Texas, and I loved being with my friends and family but I'm so happy to be in my own place again, not surrounded by poor-tasting coffee, weird vegetables, and babies. Though I miss everyone and wish I could just pop on over whenever I want to, it's nice to be able to sleep in my lumpy bed, drink my weird-tasting coffee, run into mountains whenever I'm driving, and most importantly, not be so dang hot all the time.
